I have recently published an article that attempts to answer this question. Adopting a philosophical and theoretical approach, I propose a series of ideas regarding what we understand by “digital" and its relation to mediation, technology, and, ultimately, aesthetics.
This short article works as a reading on Digital Theory, a book published in 2025 by M. Beatrice Fazi, Alexander R. Galloway, Matthew Handelman, and Leif Weatherby.
The article draws on concepts regarding aesthetics, technology, and information, from Simondon, Matthew Fuller, Yuk Hui, and Stiegler. My research begins from a perspective that is initially linguistic and subsequently economic, incorporating ideas from Deleuze, Flusser, Lacan, Foucault, and Bergson, among others.
I’d love to hear your thoughts! I think there are plenty of conversations to be had here.
