The UK-based virtual production research and innovation lab CoSTAR and Southbank Centre London have invited applications for the first Creative Intelligence Award, a commission “designed to support ambitious creative work at the intersection of creativity and technology”. The winner of the £50,000 award will have the chance to show their work at the second iteration of Creative Intelligence festival at Southbank, in autumn 2027.
Applications are invited from UK companies to propose original creative concepts using AI, virtual production, or other emerging technologies, working with any art form but with an emphasis encouraged on groundbreaking cross-disciplinary proposals. The winning applicant will receive a £50,000 grant, access to CoSTAR studios, and AI compute and cloud credits. Applications close on December 17, 2026,
The award was announced at the first Creative Intelligence festival held at Southbank Centre in September 2026, a three-day event dedicated to championing human agency and imagination at a time when artists are increasingly using AI as part of their creative practice. The award is supported by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade.
