Art Basel Names Karen Archey as New Curator for Zero 10
The head of curatorial at Düsseldorf's K20 and K21 museums will oversee the art fair giant’s presentation of art of the digital era, with Eli Scheinman, at Art Basel Miami Beach 2026

Karen Archey has been named curator of the next iteration of Art Basel’s Zero 10 initiative for art of the digital era, to be held at Art Basel Miami Beach in December 2026. Archey, and Eli Scheinman, who has worked on all editions of Zero 10 since its launch at Art Basel Miami Beach in December 2025, will jointly curate “Generation”, the largest Zero 10 presentation to date, made up of 19 projects, involving 22 galleries, with contributions from artists including Sarah Meyohas, Emily Xie, Jon Rafman, Mitchell F Chan, Robert Alice, and Refik Anadol.
Nicole Sales Giles, formerly head of digital art at Christie’s New York, meanwhile joins Art Basel as Zero 10’s first Global Head, responsible for strategic direction of the initiative as a year-round global entity. Giles is working with Scheinman, who acts as Strategic Advisor to Zero 10.
Archey is Head of the Curatorial Department at K20 and K21 museums, Düsseldorf, and formerly Curator of Contemporary Art at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. During her time at the Stedelijk, the poetry-loving Archey oversaw the museum’s contemporary art and time-based media collections. The artists she showed at the Amsterdam institution include Hito Steyerl, Metahaven, and Marina Abramović. During her previous career as a writer and independent curator, she organized, with Robin Peckham, the exhibition “Art Post-Internet” (2015) at Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing.

“The exhibition’s title points towards a productive double meaning,” Archey said in a curatorial statement, “to ‘generation’ as the computational process through which images, forms, and experiences are produced, and to a new generation of artists reckoning with the systems and imaginaries of the digital age.”
Meanwhile, the light and land artist James Turrell, who showed with Pace at the inaugural Zero 10 in December 2025, will be represented at Miami Beach in 2026 by a new body of work, presented outdoors free to the public, presented by Turrell Art Foundation, Art Basel, and Pace.
Scheinman was Zero 10’s Curator and Program Lead at the inauguration of the initiative at Art Basel Miami Beach in December 2025. Scheinman filled the same role at the second iteration at Art Basel Hong Kong in March 2026, where the emphasis was on interactivity, and was joined by the artist Trevor Paglen as co-curator of Zero 10 at Art Basel, in Switzerland, in June 2026. The presentation at the Swiss fair included seven established Art Basel galleries, among them Marian Goodman, Sprüth Magers and Hauser & Wirth, who showed alongside exhibitors with dedicated digital art programs. Six of the latter galleries had previously shown at Zero 10 at either Art Basel Miami Beach 2025 or Art Basel Hong Kong 2026.
Scheinman told Right Click Save in May 2026 that the launch iteration of Zero 10 in Miami Beach had had “its own texture that was maybe about spectacle. Hong Kong had a different feel and different type of nuance across the space.” Asked why so many mainstream galleries had signed up for Zero 10 in Switzerland, Scheinman said “there is in the region an institutional rigor and ameliorating [of] artificial delineations” between art mediums. “That context, I think, was very attractive to some of those galleries”.
At Miami Beach 2026, the established galleries joining Zero 10 for the first time include Boesky Gallery of New York, Miami's Fredric Snitzer Gallery, and DE SARTHE of Hong Kong and Scottsdale, Arizona.
